Globalscape EFT vs Diplomat MFT
How does Globalscape EFT compare to Diplomat MFT?
Globalscape EFT (Enhanced File Transfer) is a Windows-based managed file transfer platform acquired by Fortra in August 2020. The platform offers a modular approach where you purchase base functionality then add modules for features like OpenPGP encryption, DMZ Gateway, regulatory compliance, and advanced workflows. This gives flexibility but also complexity and added cost — determining what you actually need requires navigating a matrix of add-on modules, each with separate licensing. Fortra also owns GoAnywhere MFT, raising questions about long-term investment across two competing products in the same portfolio.
Globalscape’s security record includes several CVEs. In June 2023, Rapid7 disclosed multiple vulnerabilities in the EFT administration server: CVE-2023-2989 (authentication bypass via out-of-bounds memory read, potentially leading to remote code execution as SYSTEM) and CVE-2023-2990 (denial of service via recursive DeflateStream). While exploitation was assessed as difficult, these vulnerabilities in a platform handling sensitive file transfers warrant attention. The platform is also Windows-only — even the remote agents require Windows — limiting deployment flexibility.
Diplomat MFT takes a different approach: all-in-one pricing with no modular add-ons. PGP encryption is included in Standard ($2,899/year). Edge Gateway is included in Enterprise ($10,999/year). Cross-platform support covers Windows, Linux, and cloud deployments. Twenty years in production with zero CVEs. For organizations that want predictable costs and proven security without navigating module matrices, Diplomat delivers.

Understanding the features and benefits of the technologies
Globalscape EFT supports file transfers via SFTP, FTPS, HTTPS, and FTP protocols, with optional modules extending functionality to include AS2 for B2B transactions. The platform is Windows-only, designed for organizations with Windows-centric infrastructure requiring a graphical administration interface and modular feature expansion. Globalscape’s strength is its Advanced Workflow Engine (AWE) for complex automation scenarios and its integration with Microsoft environments including Active Directory, SharePoint, and Outlook. Generally, SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) is the safest and most secure protocol to use. Diplomat MFT supports FTPS, SFTP, and FTP with cross-platform deployment on both Windows and Linux. Not being limited to Windows-only infrastructure gives organizations flexibility in how they architect their secure file transfer environment.
Employs SFTP and OpenPGP encryption for highest security
Calendar exclusions prevent transfers on bank holidays
Reducing risk of human error by automating transfers
Robust scheduler for easy configuration of transfer times
Full audit trails, file archiving, and notifications
Integrates with various protocols (SFTP, FTPS, AS2, HTTPS)
What does “Enterprise” file transfer really mean?
The term “enterprise” implies a product has the features, capacity, and job management capabilities to handle the demands of the largest organizations. With managed file transfer software, that means automating the largest file transfers to an extensive digital supply chain, doing it securely and reliably, and keeping pace no matter how your needs expand. It also means including enterprise-class features such as full auditing, alerting, data archiving and retention, directory management integration, PGP encryption management, and 24×7 support. If you’re looking for an alternative to Globalscape EFT and need an MFT solution that has been proven in the most demanding enterprise environments—and is ready for more—take a look at Diplomat MFT. You’ll be glad you did.

What are the key differences between Globalscape EFT and Diplomat MFT?
Pricing model and platform support. Globalscape uses modular licensing where the base platform provides core file transfer, but features like OpenPGP encryption, DMZ Gateway, regulatory compliance tools, auditing/reporting, and advanced workflows each require separate module purchases. This creates flexibility but also complexity in determining total cost of ownership. Globalscape is also Windows-only — even remote agents require Windows servers.
Diplomat MFT uses all-in-one pricing. Standard edition ($2,899/year) includes PGP encryption. Enterprise edition ($10,999/year) includes Edge Gateway. No module matrix to navigate. Cross-platform support covers Windows and Linux. Security track records differ: Globalscape has CVE-2023-2989 (authentication bypass) and CVE-2023-2990 (denial of service); Diplomat has zero CVEs across 20 years.
Globalscape was acquired by Fortra. Does that affect the product?
Fortra acquired Globalscape in August 2020. Notably, Fortra also owns GoAnywhere MFT — meaning they now have two competing managed file transfer products in the same portfolio. This raises legitimate questions about long-term R&D investment and product direction. Which platform gets priority? Axway’s competitive analysis explicitly calls out that Globalscape’s “dedication to R&D and support resources for its product line is questionable, especially as the company turns more of its attention on GoAnywhere.”
Diplomat MFT comes from Coviant Software, a focused MFT company where file transfer is the core business — not one product among many in a sprawling security portfolio.
How does Globalscape's modular pricing compare to Diplomat's transparent pricing?
Globalscape’s base EFT platform starts around $875 (one-time license) or ~$500/month for cloud. But that’s just the starting point. Want PGP encryption? Add the OpenPGP module. Need DMZ proxy capability? Add the DMZ Gateway module. Regulatory compliance features? Add the RCM module. Auditing and reporting? Add the ARM module. Each module has separate licensing. Support tiers (Basic, Professional, Premier) add further cost variations.
Diplomat MFT publishes three tiers: Basic $1,149/year, Standard $2,699/year, Enterprise $10,999/year. Each tier includes specific features — no à la carte module purchasing. Standard includes PGP encryption and 24/7 support. You know the cost before you buy.
We're a Linux shop. Can we use Globalscape EFT?
No. Globalscape EFT is Windows-only. Even the Remote Agent Module (RAM) for distributed deployments requires Windows servers. If your infrastructure includes Linux systems — which is common in healthcare, financial services, and enterprise environments — you’ll need a different solution or Windows VMs specifically for file transfer.
Diplomat MFT supports Windows and Linux deployments. The same platform, same features, same pricing across operating systems. If you have mixed infrastructure or prefer Linux for server workloads, Diplomat doesn’t force you into Windows-only architecture.
How do the security track records compare?
In June 2023, Rapid7 disclosed multiple vulnerabilities in Globalscape EFT’s administration server. CVE-2023-2989 was an authentication bypass via out-of-bounds memory read — the theoretical impact was remote code execution as the SYSTEM user. CVE-2023-2990 was a denial of service vulnerability via recursive DeflateStream. Both were fixed in version 8.1.0.16, but they demonstrate that even established MFT platforms have security gaps discovered by researchers.
Diplomat MFT has maintained zero CVEs across 20 years of production deployment. The architecture doesn’t expose management services on network ports by default. The Edge Gateway provides true DMZ isolation. MFT platforms are high-value targets — the Cl0p ransomware group exploited GoAnywhere (another Fortra product) in early 2023. Track records matter.

I find the sftp file transfers to be the most helpful tool of Diplomat MFT. No need for programming, the interface is customized already and users only need to fill in the boxes.

Jeff M.
The interface and GUI are very straightforward. The options are simple and labeled so anyone can understand how to set up and configure. The ability to test something without actually sending something is also beneficial.
