What is FileZilla?
FileZilla is a file transfer option that supports the FTP and FTPS protocol, available for Windows, Linux and macOS. FileZilla is a good tool for transferring low priority files to and from end points as well as hosting files on SFTP or FTP servers, but it lacks automation capabilities. All transfers using FileZilla need to be initiated and monitored by a human, which means it can be a time-consuming, labor-intensive, and error-prone process, especially when it is being used for multiple workflows, or when scaling to meet increased file transfer workload demands. Some organizations integrate manual scripts when using FileZilla as a temporary solution, although later find a permanent, more effective solution is needed. FileZilla also doesn’t offer integral file encryption capabilities, and so files sent using FTP can be easily intercepted and read by someone with malicious intent. For these reasons, FileZilla is not recommend for moving sensitive data.

How To Automate Filezilla: Step-by-Step Guide
Filezilla does not provide any way to automate file transfers, but you can import your FileZilla Site Manager data into Diplomat MFT to effortlessly automate your transfers.
Step 1: Export Your Filezilla Site Manager Data
Launch Filezilla and choose “Export…” from the “File” menu. Choose all available settings to export so that we can accurately create Diplomat MFT transactions to match your Filezilla settings. Save the resulting file in a location that you can remember (such as your Desktop).
Step 2: Import The File Into Diplomat MFT
Using the Filezilla Import tool, you can point to the file you saved in step #1 to import the Filezilla Site Manager data into Diplomat MFT. The Site Manager data will be imported according to the Diplomat MFT edition you have licensed. For Enterprise edition, all Site Manager entries become partners, but for Standard and Enterprise the Site Manager data is used to populate the transaction directly. For each entry in the Site Manager, a Diplomat MFT transaction is created so you can set up the schedule, notifications, archive, and other options specific to your business need.
Step 3: Test Transactions
You can use the “test” button in Diplomat MFT to verify the connectivity details to remote servers and network paths. Once confirmed that you can connect to those locations, you can click the “Run Now” button to immediately execute the transaction in order to confirm that all files transfer as expected. Once you are satisfied, you can enable the transaction to run on the specified schedule — and your job is done!
